History of this Service
Started in the fall of 2000 as griffin.yi.org, we began offering hosting and IRC services for users around the world who wanted to learn linux better as well as have some fun. Although the service grew slowly, a few regulars began to emerge and make use of the system - even though it was only on dialup. For the next 2 years griffin.yi.org operated 9 months out of the year and unfortunately was down during the summertime. This all changed in late june of 2002 when we bought a dedicated line as well as our own domain. Currently users are able to compile and run their own programs as well as those installed already on the system, as well as store files, send and recieve email and host a webpage. If you're interested in becoming part of our little hole in the wall community, please head over to our signup page.
Troll
This is the box I am most proud of - even though it's only a k6-2 350 with 128mb of RAM. It's mostly composed of old unwanted hardware. It serves FTP, WWW, NFS, NTP, DNS etc. If you have an account at flyingpenguins.org, this is the box you'll be logged on to. There are no upgrades of hardware planned aside maybe for some more RAM :)
StormFrog
This machine has been "retired" (assigned backup duty) and sits in a closet not running.. It runs Blackbox + some KDE apps on a p133 with 48 megs of ram. It's fast enough to surf the web, do word processing.
Worm
This machine is my primary desktop and is kept very up to date with the latest Gentoo release It's a Digital Personal Workstation 500a that was upgraded to 633mhz. It also has a 2mb L3 cache, fibre channel drive and 896 megs of RAM gobbling goodness. I am actively seeking additional parts that I might use for this machine.
Gargoyle
This box boots Slackware 10.x and boots (on occasion) WindowsXP. It's composed of an Athlon 700 donated by Eric Maxey, 384MB of ram and a 10GB hard drive. Space really isn't an issue though since I can share files over the network. It's got the "fast" graphics card so this machine is what I use if I need to do anything very graphics intensive. Most of the time it is turned off however, in favor of the Alpha.
